He held back but didn’t move, even as someone urged him to do so. Not long after starting work, his phone began to vibrate incessantly. When he picked it up, it was all messages from 方悦悦…
Photos of 蔺唯 meeting with 余瑜 at a café were taken from a very suggestive angle. Even though 霍淇君 knew there was nothing between them, seeing the images at a glance made him feel slightly uncomfortable.
“What’s going on! Is that your boyfriend???”
方悦悦 noticed he hadn’t replied and even called him frantically.
霍淇君 rubbed his forehead, “How did you run into them?”
“Is that the point right now?!” 方悦悦 nearly stammered with excitement, “What’s going on?! Your boyfriend can’t handle a platonic relationship, and he’s cheating with your assistant?!”
She had gone to 霍氏 that day, and 余瑜 was the one to host him, so she naturally recognized his face. She even remembered how 蔺唯 had glanced at 余瑜 a few extra times, which made 霍淇君 a bit jealous!
Oh my gosh, this aligned perfectly!!!
霍淇君 was caught off guard by her, and after a while, he said, “He met with 余瑜, and he reported it to me last night. Don’t make a fuss. 蔺唯 isn’t that kind of person. It’s a bit complicated, and I can’t explain it to you right now.”
“Oh, got it!” 方悦悦 felt partially relieved, but the other part was still full of gossip, “So what’s the progress between you two?”
“It’s like that. He’s even more saintly than a monk; what can I do?” 霍淇君 knew he shouldn’t share these details with a girl, but he couldn’t help but vent after feeling embarrassed yesterday.
“But there must be a reason, right?” 方悦悦 had a sudden idea, “Haven’t you decided who is on top yet?”
“……” 霍淇君 was taken aback. Is this something one can directly ask? But upon reconsideration, he hadn’t actually thought about it deliberately. Mainly because… his and 蔺唯’s progress wasn’t as fast as 方悦悦 imagined.
However, it seemed like a good time to start thinking about it.
With 蔺唯’s good temperament, he shouldn’t insist on fighting for dominance, right?
“Seriously, you and your boyfriend—at first glance, you look like you’re perfectly matched. Just look at him and your assistant 余. Their roles are quite distinct.” 方悦悦 teased, “If I’m not mistaken, you don’t even have a height difference?”
Not just that; 蔺唯 could easily pick him up, and it was hard to tell where he got such strength despite his refined demeanor.
“Being tall isn’t his fault.” 霍淇君 retorted stubbornly, “I don’t like short guys either!”
“…… Having that confidence is a good thing.” 方悦悦 rolled her eyes on the other end of the call.
“What do you mean?” 霍淇君 keenly sensed her undertone.
“Ha ha, guess?”
“…………”
Forget it, he wouldn’t pick a fight with a little girl!
霍淇君 hung up, focusing on his work. Soon, 蔺唯 called to ask if he was home and if he wanted to have dinner together.
“Is your date with 余瑜 finished already?” He couldn’t resist throwing in a sarcastic comment.
“Yeah, I’m looking for you to continue the evening. Are you coming out?” 蔺唯 chuckled, not bothering to elaborate and deliberately teasing him.
“…… Where?” 霍淇君 held back.
蔺唯 gave him an address, which was the same place from where 方悦悦 had just reported to 霍淇君. He felt a bit reluctant but thought that 蔺唯 had handled 余瑜 for him the whole morning, so he couldn’t just say he wanted to change places.
“Just wait for me there; I’ll be there soon.”
“Okay, drive carefully.” 蔺唯 reminded softly from the other side.
“Got it.” 霍淇君 felt his face heat up; he didn’t know why he felt so pleased by such casual concern from 蔺唯.
Some emotions really were difficult to comprehend!
When he arrived at the location, he was surprised to find that 方悦悦 hadn’t left yet. Instead, she was chatting with 蔺唯. 霍淇君’s previously pleasant expression fell, and he quickly walked over to sit beside 蔺唯.
“Why are you still here?” 霍淇君 impatiently tapped the table.
“Your boyfriend saw me and invited me to sit! At least I helped you quite a bit; look at how he treats me. Can you please reflect on yourself?” 方悦悦 was not the type to tolerate 霍淇君’s moods.
To his surprise, 霍淇君 miraculously didn’t feel a bit resentful; instead, he couldn’t help but smile slightly.
方悦悦 quickly realized that her words were just rewarding him, giving him a boost.
The fact that 蔺唯 treated her so nicely was due to her helping 霍淇君, so it wasn’t surprising that 霍淇君 felt proud of himself at this moment!
Originally, 方悦悦 only intended to sit for a bit, greet them both, and leave. Now she was glued to her seat, ignoring all of 霍淇君’s signals to leave.
蔺唯 quietly observed the tension between them but didn’t try to chase 方悦悦 away. She was a decent girl, and it was good for 霍淇君 to have a friend like her.
However, by the end of the meal, 方悦悦 still regretted her decision. 霍淇君, being such a weirdo, ordered a huge plate of shrimp but didn’t pick up a single one with his chopsticks. 方悦悦 nearly rolled her eyes to the heavens. If he didn’t want to peel shrimp, why not just order a plate of shrimp meat? Who could possibly be that oblivious?
She was sure 蔺唯 had noticed, but although he knew 霍淇君 was being unreasonable, he just chuckled and silently peeled ten or more for him to put in his bowl!
方悦悦 watched in disbelief, wondering why fate was so blind. Why did a childish jerk like 霍淇君 get to have such an understanding boyfriend?!
In the end, it was 霍淇君 who emerged victorious. As soon as 方悦悦 finished eating, she left in a hurry, unable to take it any longer!
After she left, 霍淇君 snorted, only to be teased by 蔺唯, “Is it fun competing with a little girl?”
“Who told her to act like a third wheel to annoy me!” 霍淇君 replied shamelessly, “If you think it’s childish, then why did you go along with it?”
“Just fulfilling my duties as your… trial boyfriend?” 蔺唯 shrugged casually.
